Paths and Routes in the Iberian Peninsula

In this section, we refer to some consolidated itineraries and pilgrimage routes in the Iberian Peninsula that have some relationship with Mallorca.

Iberian Peninsula
Newly created path that connects Cistercian monasteries of the twelfth century.
Iberian Peninsula
A newly created path that commemorates the flight of the Cathars (also known as Albigensians or "good men"), who were expelled from Languedoc as a result of the crusade promoted by the medieval Church and executed by the King of France. The background of this itinerary (which has several branches) is the presence in Occitania, seven centuries ago, of Cathar spirituality, which was considered a heresy by Pope Innocent III. The crusade against the Cathars was ruthlessly led by Simó de Montfort and led to the defeat of the supposed heretics and the end of Occitania as a country. Some of them, in their flight, arrived in Majorca after the Conquest of 1229.
Iberian Peninsula
A newly created tourist itinerary that recalls the origins of Christianity in the Iberian Peninsula, in the first to fifth centuries, in the city of Tarragona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An extension of this route could include, in Majorca, the early Christian basilica of Son Peretó (Manacor), the basilica on the island of Cabrera or the cave of Sant Martí (Alcúdia).
Iberian Peninsula
A network of roads of medieval origin that converge in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, an ancestral pilgrimage site where the remains of the apostle Saint James are preserved. Currently, it includes the sanctuary of Lluc as one of the starting landmarks of the route.

European Cultural Routes

The European Cultural Routes are routes approved by the Council of Europe. They travel through different countries of the Old Continent and pursue the promotion of human rights, cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and mutual exchanges across borders. We have made a selection of those that have a clear spiritual dimension and that, due to their contents, could have some relationship with Mallorca. The date of homologation is indicated.
