Pilgrimage to the hermitage of Sant Blai

Campos
This ancient pilgrimage has its origin in the popular belief that Sant Blai is the advocate of those who suffer from a sore throat.
Leave Campos in a southeasterly direction along the road that goes to the Colonia de Sant Jordi (PM-6040); at kilometre 4, we find a boundary cross that indicates the path on the left which, in another half kilometre, will leave us at the oratory of Sant Blai. Pilgrims have the habit of doing the 4.5 kilometers of the route with a yellow handkerchief around their necks, either on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
When the pilgrims arrive at the oratory, mass is celebrated and the traditional anointing of oil on the neck is performed, as well as the blessing of rolls or herbal sweets. Then, there are children’s games, ball de bot and brotherhood lunch.
The oratory of Sant Blai is one of the oldest in Mallorca, as it is recorded in documentation of Pope Innocent IV in 1248. It is in the primitive Gothic style with a single nave with a rectangular floor plan, covered with a transept vault and eight adjoining chapels. From the fifteenth century onwards, several reforms were carried out. It has two portals: the main one and a side one that opens onto a courtyard with a foreign portal.
Attached to the chapel, there is a garden, which, between 1652 and 1845, was a cemetery. There are symbolic sculptures and plants of Mediterranean flora.
